Solemn Mass and Dedication of the Altar, Cathedral of Saint Thomas More
“Today we are renewed by the celebration of this sacred liturgy in which we dedicate the new altar in this transformed Cathedral with joyful and thankful hearts for the blessings of our diocesan church, especially in this our Jubilee Year.
In this Cathedral church, the Word of God has been preached in truth and love, and the Sacraments have been celebrated faithfully and devoutly. It has also been a place of meditation, prayer, and reflection before his Real Presence in the tabernacle for the countless people who have walked through these doors.
Strengthened by these graces, God’s holy people have gone forth from here to discipleship as instruments of Christ’s renewing love to all they encounter. The experience of faith, worship, prayers, and community lived in this Cathedral of Saint Thomas More is reflective of all our parish communities throughout the diocese.
In the three-year preparation for this great event, we endeavored first to remember in gratitude Christ’s divine presence in the Eucharist and the many tremendous blessings he has bestowed on us since our foundation. This reflection enabled us to rejoice with the heart of Mary and to proclaim with her the goodness of the Lord.
As we look ahead to the next fifty years, we do so now with a hope-filled faith that Jesus will renew, lead, sustain, and strengthen us from the depths of his Sacred Heart.
Through the intercession of Mary our Mother, Saint Joseph, and Saint Thomas More, may Our Lord Jesus bless our diocesan family in our Jubilee Year and always.”
